How to rank high in Google with Keywords
You finally have your website up and running.
It’s perfect or is it? Your website is ranking on the search engines; you thought it would do better. The fault may lie in keywords
You are in the business of hot tubs and garden hoses. The content on your website then is naturally about garden hoses and hot tubs. Your content includes the industry jargon you’re familiar with. Words like ergonomic seating and aeration pumps, appear throughout your text. You never considered the search words your customers use to find hot tub: searching for “comfortable seating” (known as a long tail keyword) and bubbles instead.
How will they find you if you don't include the terms potential buyers are using?
- Sit yourself down at your customer’s keyboard, and pretend you know nothing about hot tubs except that you want one. What words come to mind when your searching for hot tubs.
- Make an effort to get to know your target audience. What is the average age group of hot tub buyers? Does this group have health issues, could people with arthritis use a hot tub is a solution for comfort?
- The more specific you make the keywords based on your audience’s behavior the more visitors you will reap. For example: if you include water as a keyword, it’s very vague to be of value. If you use the phase bubbly water or soothing aerated water, that may be closer to a term someone with arthritis would search on.
- When search terms seem redundant try using synonyms. When writing about hot tubs and using the word hot tub in mostly every sentence, your content stiffens, making it uninteresting and unreadable. Readers will lose interest. Change the word hot tub with spa, whirlpool or bath to keep it flowing.
- It is important to continue to use your main subject or keyword throughout your website but tread lightly. You don’t want to overdo it. In this case, hot tub is the phrase your audience expects to find on your website.
- What happens when a keyword is so popular everyone is using it. Research, research, and research will resolve this. There are tools such as Google Trends for these situations. “Google Trends is a website by Google that analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across various regions and languages. The website uses graphs to compare the search volume of different queries over time.”
- For a website to rank high on the google search bar make sure you use descriptions and titles that clearly state what the page, article or image is about.
In conclusion: Make sure your keywords add value and enhance the content you’re writing about. Stay away from stuffing your content with overly achieving keywords. You should aim for balance. Add keywords in the right place, with the right word or phrase for the right search
Remember that content ranking is successful when the right keywords are used. Use tools, synonym, and research to find them.
